Dev Update #3: Los Santos Is Yours
Free Mode, the car meet, the 3D map, speed traps and the Private World: how we approached the RUSH open world.
RUSH is a racing server, but the city isn't just the road between one race and the next. We wanted an open world that gives you a reason to cruise.
FREE MODE
You enter the shared world with a camera that drops from the sky down to your car. The city has traffic, other drivers and places to go. In the settings, choose whether you spawn at your car meet spot or at a random point.
THE CAR MEET
Every driver has a spot at the meet. You line up your car, park it and it stays on display with your name. Only you can get in your car, and the meet shows up on the map so everyone knows where the crew is.
THE MAP AND FAST TRAVEL
The GTA map was replaced by a camera that actually flies over the city. You drag, rotate, zoom and mark your destination, with a line showing the route. When you're in a car, Fast Travel takes you there with a camera flight.
THE SPEED TRAPS
We spread speed traps across the city. When you pass one, you see your speed next to your best, the best with that car and the trap record. Each speed trap has bronze, silver and gold medals, and each medal pays Coins only once.
THE PRIVATE WORLD
When you just want to play with friends, the Private World lets you set the time, weather, NPCs, teleport, repair and ghost mode, invite whoever you want and kick anyone who gets in the way. You don't earn Coins or experience there, and speed traps don't count toward the ranking.
