Dev Update #4: Built to Race
Practice, Time Attack, the record holder's ghost, the racing line, rewind and the track editor: the heart of RUSH.
Racing is the heart of RUSH. Over the last few weeks we rebuilt the whole flow, from picking a mode to the results screen.
PICKING A MODE
The modes screen is now a carousel with artwork for each mode. The selected mode even shows up on the garage LED panel.
PRACTICE AND TIME TRIAL
In Practice you race alone on any track, with no ranking and infinite laps on circuits. In Time Attack, you get a rolling start and every clean lap goes on the track leaderboard, validated by the server.
When picking a track you see the record, your best time and your position, can favorite the ones you like and pick a car from your garage or borrow one from the catalog.
THE RECORD HOLDER'S GHOST
You can race against the record holder's ghost, with their car and look, seeing the gap live. When someone breaks the record, the ghost changes instantly. The leaderboard also separates keyboard players from controller players.
THE RACING LINE AND REWIND
Arrows on the ground follow the record line and change color to show where to accelerate and where to brake. Missed a corner? Press R and rewind up to 15 seconds. The lap just stops counting for the record.
CLEAR RULES
Checkpoints are gantries you cross in order. Going back to a checkpoint makes the lap "dirty", and best lap only counts clean laps. Everyone starts at the same instant, synced by the server.
CREATE TRACK
The track editor walks you through building in five steps, with the route following the streets live, props placed with the World Builder and a test drive before saving.
WHAT'S NEXT
Competitive, Events and Drift already show up in the menu as Coming soon. We'll share more when they're ready.
